About Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio
Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio is built on Monprivato, a roughly 6 ha cru in Castiglione Falletto on calcareous marl that the family holds as a monopole, planted largely with the local Michet clone of Nebbiolo. Monprivato Barolo is perfumed and long-lived, with rose, dried herbs and tar over restrained tannin and high acidity; in top years a chosen plot becomes Ca' d'Morissio Riserva, aged five years or more. Other Barolos come from Villero, sterner than Monprivato, and Santo Stefano di Perno in Monforte. Long submerged-cap macerations precede years in large Slavonian oak botti, with no fining or filtration. Barbera, Freisa and Langhe Nebbiolo complete the range.
