About Chateau Haut-Bailly

Château Haut-Bailly, a Pessac-Léognan Graves Cru Classé owned by the estate of Robert G. Wilmers, makes only red wine, from 28 ha on one of the highest ridges of the Garonne's left bank: sand and clay-gravel over a fossil-rich falun subsoil. Its heart is a 4 ha plot planted in 1905, interplanted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carménère. The 54 parcels ferment separately in concrete and steel vats, and the grand vin, which the estate calls elegant and tactile, powerful and supple, ages 14–16 months in 50–60% new oak. Haut-Bailly II, from the same plots, sees about 30% new oak; HB, from the youngest vines, is the earlier-drinking third wine.
