About Chateau Pichon Baron
Château Pichon Baron, AXA's Pauillac second growth, farms about 92 ha of Quaternary gravel planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, a little Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grand vin comes from the oldest vines, chiefly on the Butte de Pichon Baron; in 2023 it was 80% Cabernet and spent 18 months in barrel, 70% new, showing red and black fruit, cedar and graphite on a velvety, powerful palate built for decades. Les Griffons, from gravel plots near the Gironde, is a Cabernet-Merlot blend built like the grand vin and good for 20 years. Les Tourelles, from the Merlot-heavy Sainte Anne plot, is round and approachable young.
