About Chateau Pontet-Canet
Château Pontet-Canet, the Tesseron family's Pauillac fifth growth, farms 81 ha, certified organic and biodynamic in 2010, with horses ploughing part of it. Cabernet Sauvignon, over 60% of the grand vin, grows on the Günz gravel plateau; Merlot on cooler, chalkier clay near the river; Petit Verdot on four plots adds spice. Destemmed grapes drop by gravity into concrete and wooden vats, then a quarter to a third of the wine ages in egg-shaped amphorae made of clay, gravel and limestone, the rest in French barrels. The style is full yet fresh, with silky, precise tannins and growing minerality. Les Hauts de Pontet-Canet is the second wine.
