About Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste, a Pauillac fifth growth owned by the Borie family since 1978, farms vines on the Grand-Puy plateau, where gravel studded with large white pebbles lies deep over limestone, with lower, darker soils on the slopes running south-west. The vineyard is planted about 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The grand vin ferments in temperature-controlled steel tanks and then spends 16–18 months in French oak, with sources citing 50–75% new; it is a Cabernet-driven Pauillac, powerful but controlled, with elegant tannins and aromatic depth. Lacoste-Borie, the second wine, comes from younger vines given the same care. Output averages about 12,000 cases.
