About Gaja

Gaja, the family-run Barbaresco house, farms about 100 ha in Barbaresco, Treiso, Serralunga d'Alba and La Morra. Its Barbaresco DOCG blends Nebbiolo from 14 vineyards. The single-vineyard Sorì San Lorenzo, Sorì Tildin and Costa Russi, sold as Langhe Nebbiolo with a little Barbera from 1996, returned to pure-Nebbiolo Barbaresco with the 2013 vintage. Barolo comes from Sperss in Serralunga and Conteisa in Cerequio. Ferments last up to 30 days, then wines typically spend a year in barriques, about a third new, and a year in large casks. Darmagi is Cabernet Sauvignon and Gaia & Rey Chardonnay; Pieve Santa Restituta and Ca'Marcanda add Tuscan wines.
