About Domaine Francois Raveneau
Domaine Raveneau makes only Chardonnay, from roughly 9 ha in Chablis. Decanter's Charles Curtis MW sets its three grands crus apart: Les Clos (about 0.5 ha) is the most substantial and slowest to age, Valmur (0.75 ha) trades power for finesse, and Blanchot shows the sharpest minerality and acidity. Montée de Tonnerre, over 3 ha, leads the premiers crus, alongside Butteaux, Forêt, Vaillons, Montmains and Chapelot, plus village and Petit Chablis. Hand-picked fruit ferments in steel, then ages 12–18 months in older barrels, traditionally feuillettes, with almost no new oak. The wines start austere and unfurl with age; Montée de Tonnerre stays fresh for 10–20 years.
