About Chateau Leoville Las Cases

Château Léoville Las Cases, the Delon family's Saint-Julien Second Growth, draws its grand vin mainly from the walled Clos Léoville Las Cases, nearly 60 ha at the commune's northern edge, separated from Latour only by a stream. Soils are Quaternary gravel over gravelly sand and clay. The Clos is planted to about 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc, giving the grand vin what the estate calls a complex, polished expression; it spends 18–20 months in oak. Clos du Marquis is a separate Saint-Julien vineyard first released in 1902; the 2025 is 73% Cabernet Sauvignon. Le Petit Lion, created in 2007 from replanted plots, is the Merlot-rich, earlier-drinking second wine.
