About Chateau Leoville Barton

Château Léoville Barton, a Saint-Julien second growth owned by the Barton family, farms about 47 ha, mainly gravel over clay, planted to roughly 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. The grand vin leans hard on Cabernet (92% in 2024) and is a classic, structured Saint-Julien that one critic expects to last for decades. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled wooden vats, followed by 16–18 months in French oak, 60% new, with egg-white fining. La Réserve de Léoville Barton, the second wine, draws on young vines and declassified plots and carries more Merlot. Both are made at sister estate Langoa Barton, a softer, more Merlot-rich third growth.
