About Corton
Corton is the largest grand cru in Burgundy and the Côte de Beaune's only red grand cru, created in 1937. It covers the lower slopes of the Corton hill, shared by Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix. Because it is large and varied, labels usually add the climat name, as in Corton Clos du Roi or Corton Les Bressandes, which is unusual for a Côte d'Or grand cru. About 95 per cent of the wine is red Pinot Noir, with a little white from Chardonnay. Nearly 95 hectares were in production in 2008.
