About Tenuta San Guido
Tenuta San Guido in Bolgheri makes Sassicaia, the only Italian single-estate wine with its own DOC. It is Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc (88/12 in 2022) from plots such as Castiglioncello, Aia Nuova and Sassicaia di Sopra at 100–360 m on stony calcareous marl and clay; fermentation in steel uses natural yeasts and macerations are kept short, then the wine spends 24 months in barriques, about 40% new. Expect fine, elegant, minty and spicy wine that needs four to five years and lasts much longer. Guidalberto blends Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot from clay-silt plots along the Viale dei Cipressi for a softer style; Le Difese pairs Cabernet with Sangiovese as the entry point.
