About Chateau Rieussec

Château Rieussec, a Sauternes first growth in Fargues owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), farms about 93 ha of clay-gravel and clay-sand beside Yquem. Plantings are roughly 90% Sémillon with a little Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Grapes are picked in several passes between September and November, and the grand vin spends 16 to 26 months in barrel depending on the vintage, about half of the barrels renewed each year; it is deep gold, powerful and concentrated; poor years such as 2012 are skipped. Carmes de Rieussec is the second sweet wine, and R de Rieussec a dry Bordeaux white from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc.
