About Joseph Roty

Domaine Joseph Roty in Gevrey-Chambertin is defined by old vines averaging over 60 years. The flagship is Charmes-Chambertin Très Vieilles Vignes, more than half of it planted in 1881 among the first grafted vines after phylloxera; Mazy-Chambertin and Griotte-Chambertin are the other grands crus. Below come Gevrey 1er Cru Les Fontenys, the village lieux-dits Champs-Chenys and La Brunelle, Marsannay, and Cuvée Pressonnier, a Bourgogne from a plot once rated village Gevrey. Grapes are destemmed and cold-soaked, fermented below 30°C with long macerations, and aged in well-toasted young barrels. Dark-fruited and concentrated, the wines show toasty oak when young.
