About Chateau La Conseillante

La Conseillante, owned by the Nicolas family, farms 11.8 ha in 16 plots on Pomerol's plateau next to L'Évangile, Vieux Château Certan and Cheval Blanc. Soils run from grey clay in the north-east to sandy gravel in the south-west, planted to 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Each plot ferments in its own concrete vat, and the wine ages in roughly 70% new barrels, with a small share in amphorae. The grand vin is perfumed and silky, with violet, red berry and spice, soft tannins and black truffle after a decade. Duo de Conseillante, from two sandier plots, is less concentrated and drinks within ten years.
