About Cos d'Estournel

Cos d'Estournel, Michel Reybier's Saint-Estèphe Second Growth, farms plots around a deep-gravel plateau, with Cabernet Sauvignon on the free-draining heights and Merlot on clay-limestone to the east. The grand vin comes from the oldest vines, about 55 years on average, and recent blends run about 60–65% Cabernet, mostly with Merlot; it is styled opulent and velvety, with spice, graphite and black fruit. Pagodes de Cos, made since 1994 from dedicated 40-year-old vines, may be Merlot- or Cabernet-led and is styled vibrant and silky. Cos d'Estournel Blanc, first made in 2005, blends Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon; a Pagodes de Cos Blanc is also made. Since 2003 it has fermented in conical, temperature-controlled steel vats.
