Chateau de Beaucastel Hommage a Jacques Perrin, Chateauneuf-du-Pape

Famille Perrin's flagship is Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape: 130 ha, 100 of them in the appellation, of head-trained vines on rolled pebbles over marine molasse, organic since the 1950s and biodynamic since 1974, with all 13 varieties. The red gives unusual weight to Mourvèdre, roughly 30% beside 30% Grenache plus Syrah, Counoise and Cinsault; each variety ferments separately in wood or concrete before the blend ages a year in large foudres. Hommage à Jacques Perrin, made only in top years since 1989, is about 60% Mourvèdre. Whites are Roussanne-led, topped by Roussanne Vieilles Vignes; Coudoulet de Beaucastel is the Côtes-du-Rhône. The family also co-founded Tablas Creek.
