About Chateau Angelus

Château Angélus, the de Boüard de Laforest family estate on the south-facing slopes of Saint-Émilion, farms clay-limestone vineyards planted to roughly half Merlot and half Cabernet Franc, with a little Cabernet Sauvignon; the family sets out to favour Cabernet Franc. The grand vin was 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc in 2022, aged about 22 months in new French oak, with part of the Cabernet Franc now in large foudres; it shows dark berries, violet, graphite and a saline, silky finish built for long ageing. Carillon d'Angélus (since 1987) is the second wine, No. 3 d'Angélus an 85–90% Merlot wine aged in used barrels, and Tempo d'Angélus a Bordeaux.
