About Château Troplong Mondot
Troplong Mondot, owned by the insurer SCOR, sits at Saint-Émilion's highest point, with 37 ha of vines on all sides of a hill on deep clay over asteriated limestone. The grand vin is about 85% Merlot with 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. Since 2017, under Aymeric de Gironde, the estate has gone from picking last to picking first, dropped pump-overs and barrel malolactic, and cut new oak; ageing is now 50% new barrels, 30% casks and 20% one-year barrels. The wine is now fresher and more red-fruited than the rich, extracted style of old. Mondot, from young limestone vines, is over 90% Merlot and sees no new oak.
