About Joseph Phelps
Joseph Phelps, now part of LVMH's Moët Hennessy, built its name on Insignia, first made in 1974 as a proprietary Bordeaux-style blend of each vintage's finest wines. Today it is Cabernet-led: in 2018 it was 87% Cabernet Sauvignon plus Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, drawn from six estate sites such as Las Rocas in Stags Leap and Suscol in south Napa, and aged 24 months in all-new French oak. The winery describes perfumed floral and dark-fruit aromas, cigar box and a seamless tannin structure. On the Sonoma Coast, the Freestone estate's Pastorale and Quarter Moon vineyards supply Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, block-level Proem bottlings and Ovation sparkling wine.
