About Domaine Marquis d'Angerville

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville in Volnay, run by Guillaume d'Angerville, farms 11.5 ha of Volnay premier cru, biodynamically since 2006. The flagship is the Clos des Ducs monopole, 2.15 ha of steep, stony, calcareous white marl. Other Volnays include Champans (about 4 ha, rocky limestone above, deeper clay below), Taillepieds (1.07 ha, whose thin soil and sunny exposure add finesse), Caillerets, Fremiet, Mitans, Pitures and Clos des Angles; a 1.05 ha plot of Meursault Santenots, planted to Chardonnay, gives the white premier cru. Grapes are destemmed and macerated 8–10 days with pump-overs but no punch-downs, then aged with about 25% new oak, for Pinot Noir that Clive Coates calls pure, elegant and terroir-specific.
