About Chateau Palmer
Château Palmer, a Margaux third growth, farms 66 ha biodynamically on the gravel Plateau des Brauzes above the Gironde. Plantings are unusual: Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon at 47% each, with 6% Petit Verdot; 1930s Merlot vines form the core. Merlot brings generosity and a velvety texture, Cabernet restrained power, Petit Verdot spice. Parcels ferment separately in 54 conical stainless-steel vats; the wine then spends 20–22 months in 225-litre barrels, under half new, and in 30 hl vats, with reduced added sulphur. Alter Ego, from dedicated plots since 1998, sees less new wood for earlier drinking. There is also a Vin Blanc de Palmer.
