About Chateau Montrose
Château Montrose, a Saint-Estèphe second growth owned by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, farms a single block of vines on gravel terraces near the Gironde estuary, with surface sand over clay. The grand vin draws on Terrace 4, the original plot first planted in 1815, which the estate calls a promised land for Cabernet Sauvignon; the 2020 blended 71% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Montrose tends to be deeply tannic and in excellent vintages can need up to 20 years to mature; tasters found cassis and graphite in the 2020. La Dame de Montrose is the second wine; Terrasse de Château Montrose and Montrose Blanc complete the range.
