About Chateau Margaux

Château Margaux, the Mentzelopoulos family's First Growth, makes Cabernet Sauvignon-led reds and a noted white. Only about 40% of the harvest goes into the grand vin (93% Cabernet in 2024, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot), which ages around 21 months in new French oak and shows silky texture with dense, supple tannins. Pavillon Rouge, about 75–80% Cabernet with 15–20% Merlot, spends some 20 months in barrel, nearly 60% new, and is more approachable young yet can age 30–40 years. Pavillon Blanc is pure Sauvignon Blanc from a 12 ha plot of roughly 50-year-old vines, rich yet taut, with a second wine of its own.
