About Chateau L'Evangile
Château L'Évangile (Domaines Barons de Rothschild) farms just over 22 ha on Pomerol's eastern edge, with Pétrus to the north and Cheval Blanc across the road to the south. Its best parcels, next to Pétrus, sit on swelling clay, the south on gravel and sand terraces. Plantings are about 79% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc with a trace of Cabernet Sauvignon. The grand vin ages around 18 months in barrel, roughly 70% new, with foudres, amphorae and concrete also in use, and is full, round and powerful yet fine. Blason de L'Évangile sees shorter barrel time and is meant for earlier drinking.
