About Chateau Calon Segur

Château Calon Ségur, the Médoc's northernmost classified growth, farms 55 ha in Saint-Estèphe, about 45 ha in production, on thick Quaternary gravel over clay. Plantings run roughly 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, and replanting since 2006 is pushing Cabernet higher; the grand vin was 76% Cabernet in 2017. Fermented in stainless steel, it ages about 20 months in new oak and pairs silky tannins with black fruit, spice and a firm backbone. Le Marquis de Calon Ségur is the second wine; Le C de Calon Ségur, the third label, ages about 14 months in three-year-old barrels.
