About Alban Vineyards
Alban Vineyards, John Alban's Edna Valley estate (about 60 acres of vines), focuses on Rhône varieties and bottles its distinct soil blocks separately. Reva, 97–100% Syrah from sandy, chalky, alkaline soils, is dark, with black fruit, fennel, graphite and an iodine, oyster-shell note. Lorraine, pure Syrah from cobbly marine soils and chalk-laced sandstone, has the reddest fruit and roundest tannins. Seymour's, from flint, chalk and sandstone, is the most structured. Pandora blends Grenache and Syrah, its Grenache from the same terraced chalk hillside, with smoked herbs and red fruit. Reds ferment in open tops with native yeasts, age about three years in French oak and are bottled unfined and unfiltered.
