About Adelaide Hills
Adelaide Hills is a geographical indication, registered in February 1998, for the Mount Lofty Ranges east of Adelaide, from near Mount Pleasant in the north to Mount Compass in the south. Breezes from Gulf St Vincent temper its Mediterranean climate and make it one of South Australia's coolest wine regions. White grapes dominate, led by Sauvignon Blanc, then Chardonnay, with Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris also important. The region's 2014 crush was about two-thirds white. It contains two official sub-regions, Lenswood and Piccadilly Valley.
