About Eola-Amity Hills
Eola-Amity Hills is a Willamette Valley sub-AVA in Polk and Yamhill counties, running from Amity south to Salem. It was established in July 2006 after a petition by Russell Raney of Evesham Wood and Ted Casteel of Bethel Heights, who had proposed the name 'Eola Hills'. The hills lie west of the Willamette River, about 15 miles long and 6 wide. Like the rest of the valley the climate is maritime, with mild winters and summers cooler and wetter than in Washington or California. Soils are shallow and basalt-derived. Plantings grew from about 1,244 acres at the start to 2,850 acres by 2025, led by Pinot Noir.
