About Promontory
Promontory is the Harlan family's estate in a canyon off the Oakville Grade, where less than 10% of 840 acres is planted, on slopes averaging 40% and on volcanic, sedimentary and metamorphic soils. The estate wine is Cabernet Sauvignon-based and made in many separate batches (88 in 2022, yielding 52 fermentations), then aged 30 to 36 months in large Austrian oak casks. It is more rustic, tannic and acidic than Harlan Estate, with herbal and mineral notes over finely grained tannins in 2022. Penultimate, sold only at the winery, comes from vines not yet promoted to Promontory, while The Mascot draws on younger vines from Promontory, Harlan Estate and BOND.
